Leonid Andreyev

Leonid Andreyev (1871-1919) was a Russian writer and playwright, a leading figure of the Silver Age whose intense, often bleak work bridged realism and expressionism. Born in Oryol, he won early fame with stories confronting death, fear and social violence; The Seven Who Were Hanged (1908) is his best-known tale.
